Year 1953

The purchase of 22 Burgess Street was short lived as the Institute forced Fraternities to shudder their houses in the fall of 1953 due to a decline in enrollment in the dormitories. Enrollment in DK also waned as membership dropped below 20 active Brothers for the first time since the WWI.

But the spring brought the genius that is YAMHO! Once the first party was over the Brotherhood knew they had a winner, as they announced it as an Annual Affair”. Oh, yea, they also announced their first YAMHO! Queen: Judy Bishoff. Sadly for poor Judy, she only won third prize at the party. First prize went to Mrs. Edgar Baerwald, who was described as, “the nurse I would most like to have if I were sick.” Preventing her from being named Queen was Mr. Edgar Baerwald.

There’s a lot more coming!
